Effects of the Changing Legal Landscape on the Recruitment and Enrollment of Students of Color: What Counselors Need to Know
July 12, 2023
On June 29, 2023 the Supreme Court ruled on the Students for Fair Admissions (SFFA) vs. Harvard and University of North Carolina: Chapel Hill cases. As higher education institutions braced for this decision, there has been a need to focus on the impact that these cases will have on the recruitment and enrollment of students of color across the United States. How should counselors begin preparing students for the changes? How should you be advising current juniors who will be the first to apply to college under the new criterion? Participants heard from three experts in higher education about the best ways to prepare for the impact of the SCOTUS decision. This session was NOT recorded.

2 + 2 Really Can Be Greater Than 4: Collaborating to Find Financial Fit College Options for Students
February 8, 2023
Demonstrably improving college access for historically marginalized populations requires that the whole of our work is greater than the sum of its parts. We all need better data, and we can't all go it alone. But when we collaborate - within our organizations AND across our organizational networks - we can make dramatic progress. This presentation tells the story of how Chicago Scholars and TuitionFit teamed up to create a verifiable dataset of the actual prices that colleges charge all different types of students, and how that partnership lead to systemic collaboration between a host of college access organizations throughout the Chicago area to solve the challenge of finding financial fit college options for students.
